Why do we enjoy listening to sad music?

A hybrid evening of research, music, and emotion.

Honorary Frijda Chair holder Prof. David Huron will guide us through the science of sad sounds, addressing two questions: What makes something sound sad? And how is it that listening to sad music can be enjoyable?

The evening – live from de Balie in Amsterdam – will be enriched by an interdisciplinary panel discussion, with Psyche Loui (Northeastern University) and Mariska Kret (Leiden University) moderated by Fleur Bouwer (University of Amsterdam). In addition, the hybrid evening will be  accompanied by a measured dose of sad music by Diamanda Dramm.
